BOILING SPRINGS, SC –Libertas Academy Boiling Springs sixth grade student Winson Cheung was named the 2024 Middle School Student of the Year at the Charter Institute at Erskine’s Awards Banquet on May 16.
Cheung was nominated for statewide student of the year by the leaders at his school. In his nomination form, they wrote about the resilience that he demonstrates when faced with challenges in both his personal and academic life. Additionally, in his work as a Libertas Student Ambassador, he has had the ability to help prospective families, and contribute to the growth and reputation of the school.
“Overall, Winson’s resilience, work ethic, kindness, and proactive nature not only make him stand out among his peers but also make a lasting impression on the school community,” said Tessa Porter, Cheung’s teacher. “He exemplifies the ethos of the school and serves as an inspiration to others, showcasing how one can overcome challenges and make a positive impact.”
The purpose of the Institute’s Student of the Year Award is to recognize a student that has gone above and beyond in their school communities, both academically and culturally. These students embody the mission and values of both their school and the Institute as a whole.
“Winson is truly a special student,” said School Leader Celina Patton. “His kind soul and desire to help others are evident in everything he does. We are thrilled that he was named Institute Student of the Year!”
Libertas Academy Boiling Springs is a K-6 public, tuition-free charter school in the greater Spartanburg area. At full matriculation, the school will serve grades K-8.
